CHINESE GOLD!!!!! Beautiful crystalline specimen exhibiting brilliant, lively luster and a rich orangish color. Pseudo-crystal faces probably from Quartz crystals intergrown with the Gold, these faces show brilliant mirror-like surfaces, some appear as thin Gold leaf. Sparse Octoheadral crystal development observed. Somewhat more Hackly appearance. Small trace of Quartz matrix remains as well as  small % Petzite.  I obtained these specimens at an International Gem and Mineral Exhibition in Changsha China in May, 2014.  These were the ONLY Chinese Gold specimens in the entire show. Seems the Chinese Government does not allow miners to sell to anyone other than the Government owned and controlled refiners. (That is my interpretation) I am sorry they are sooo expensive...but I had to pay dearly to get them myself. Only through my Chinese wifes wonderful negotiating skills was I able to obtain these pieces. I dont know very much geologic detail about the deposit.

Famatinite---GOLDFIELD, NV ORE  (Cu3Sb2S4). This is an unusual Gold bearing mineral that was the principal ore mineral in the Goldfield mines, Nevada.  Specimen has been cut open with a diamond saw to reveal the Famatinite within..  I crushed pieces of this material with a mortar and pestle and panned the fine material and saw very small flakes of Gold. This material screams with a metal detector. Treated with Mineral Oil to contrast the specimen. To remove, simply soak in hot water, or rubbing alcohol, if wished.  Found at the Red Top Mine in this old historic, Nevada Gold camp.

Small specimen of crystallized Gold in low temperature Quartz (Epithermal). This is an example of a Paleo-hot springs type of Gold specimen. Gold occurs as wire, partial dendrites, incomplete leaves, blebs, and grains, all in a weakly developed, cockscomb quartz setting.  It has been treated with mineral oil to enhance the contrast with the Quartz and Gold. To remove soak in rubbing alcohol, or hot water. This piece comes from an obscure location. Quite rare!!

Calaverite,(AuTe2)  A small  specimen of ore from the Cresson Mine dump in Cripple Creek, Colorado.  I collected this piece in the early 1980s.  This is an unusual and un- common Tellurium/Gold mineral, that is mined for its Gold content. Brilliant, silvery white, with adamantine luster, found in tiny Quartz vugs.  The Calaverite shows striations on the crystal faces. Specimen has been cut several times with a diamond saw. The Cresson Mine is currently a very large open pit mine that uses Cyanide heap mining extraction on very low-grade ores.  In 1914 an underground mining operation, on this site,  broke into an open vug where  over 60,000 ounces of Gold was found as Calaverite and Sylvanite crystals.
